The Proverb:  “Think Before You Speak”

.

.

As nearly all proverbs are very literal — this proverb is advising one to think about the words that one says, before actually speaking them.  To think about whether those words will be appropriate in the situation that one is in.  This is usually given as advice to:  Not say something which will get one in trouble, or in an otherwise unwanted situation.
