Abbreviation — Grammatical Term
.
.
The Grammatical Term: Abbreviation
.
The Grammatical Term: “Abbreviation” is the name for a Grammatical Unit which is a shortened version of a Word or Phrase — used to represent the whole word — but is shortened by eliminating certain letters — usually the vowels — and sometimes, by substituting certain Letters (for example the Abbreviation: “No.” — used to represent the word “Number”.)
.
Another common form of Abbreviation is another Grammatical Unit which is referred to by the Grammatical Term: “Acronym”. This particular type of Abbreviation is made by abbreviating a Multi-Word Name, Term, or Phrase — by combining the first letters of the words in the Name, Term, Or Phrase — in-order-to create a new Word; or simply just a Letter-Combination. For example: “NASA” — used to represent the “National Aeronautics & Space Administration” — Or FBI — used to represent the “Federal Bureau Of Investigation”.
.
(The Acronym: “ASAP” — is an Abbreviated Form of the Phrase: “As Soon As Possible”)
.
Finally — Abbreviations also include Mathematical, Computational & other types of Symbols — such as: +, =, @. (Though most people are not aware of this form of Abbreviation — and if confronted with this information — they may protest and try to contest this fact… but it is still a fact) 😉
.
Each of these Pictographic Symbols function as a single individual “Element” — just like some form of Punctuation would — where-as the Abbreviated Words — (in the shorted, or Letter-Combination form) — are Grammatical Units.
